Villa Pangi Gita
Villa Pangi Gita is like nothing you’ve ever seen before.
Villa Pangi Gita comprises a series of standalone pavilions; a style based on the concept of the traditional Balinese family compound with a separate building or ‘balé’ for each function, and a licence to amend the purpose of each in accordance with the comforts of modern living. The white of the walls and warm brown of the teak frames and floors, form the principal colours, juxtaposed against the greenery of Bali’s tropical plants.
Stone staircases and stepping-stones sunk into manicured squares of lawn lead from the impressively carved Balinese entrance past seven shingle-roofed pavilions down to the kidney shaped 12-metre pool at the river’s edge. Each air-conditioned bedroom is outfitted with a canopied queen-size teak bed, a 14-inch flat-screen TV & DVD player, and each has a semi-private terrace with daybeds and chairs. Vaulted ceilings lined with bamboo, teak-framed doors and panelled floorboards give the rooms a lovely natural feel, while contrasting well with the encompassing gardens. Furthest from the pool are the two guestrooms; each with an ensuite bathroom fitted with bathtubs and brass rainshowers open to the sky, surrounded by traditional lichen-covered brick walls to ensure privacy. The master suite sits adjacent to the pool; double sliding teak doors reveal a large bathroom with oversized bathtub and separate walk-in shower. Here, you can enjoy fresh air and riverside views while soaking in the tub. Between the bedrooms, at the centre of the villa, is an open-sided living room dominated by a stone Buddha and with a tall traditional Balinese two-tier roof for air circulation – aided by overhead fans. Terrazzo floors and encroaching gardens keep it cool, complete with bamboo screens.
Leading off the living room is the enclosed air-conditioned study/TV room. Books and games are stored on the wall-length bookcase while a 42-inch TV with satellite connection and a good selection of DVDs provides entertainment for your evenings in. Opposite is the dining room, raised to admire the surroundings. Teak-framed glass doors open on three sides to let in the sounds and scents of the gardens, with a fan to provide cooling; alternatively the doors can be closed for air-conditioned comfort. Through a low-framed carved door is a well-equipped kitchen with a casual breakfast bar.
